What’s goin’ on.

Daughtry’s music video for “It’s Not Over” is up at AOL Music. I had to watch it twice to get it fully–there’s a prison release, a bunny, a pregnancy, and a ring at the end, which I guess you’re supposed to wonder if the video’s protagonist (who totally upstages Chris in the hot department, by the way–he’s kind of like a younger Viggo Mortensen) stole or bought with the money he earned apparently working as a mechanic for one day. Anyway, Chris looks really pissed off at his microphone, too. Naturally, this video will be a huge hit.

Two days after Katharine McPhee’s album drops, Miss Classy herself will be playing…herself (whoops, had a little Austin Powers moment there) on an early February episode of the top-rated show Ugly Betty. No word yet on whether her single “Over It” will somehow be worked into the show (maybe Justin will put on a yellow dress and strut around the house singing the song until a button pops?). Or maybe they’ll just have her get a bra fitting with Salma Hayek. Anyway, I’ve never seen the show and I don’t plan on watching it just for McPhee, so unless someone YouTubes it, I’ll be sitting this one out.

So where, pray tell, is Taylor Hicks during all of this flurry of promotion for the other Idols? The answer is shocking. Are you ready for this…sit down…you never saw this one coming…Taylor Hicks is…singing. GASP! Don’t fall down; I know that one came out of nowhere. After all, what business do Idol contestants have singing? Taylor’s tour kicks off February 22 in Tampa, Florida, then moves to Universal Studios Mardi Gras on February 24 (and I’m planning on being there…hooray!). Gray Charles has the most up-to-date tour schedule on his website. Taylor has also remarked that he’d like to record each tour live and sell CDs, and that he’d also like to repress Under the Radar and In Your Time, and sell them as well. (I do wish those two were being released on the label, though; even though Taylor’d recoup less money, I’d like to see what the critics have to say about In Your Time).

Anyway, it does appear that Taylor’s people are actually doing something with “Just To Feel That Way.” The track appears (along with McPhee’s “Over It”) on the February Hot Tracks compilation disc put out by Nu Music Traxx (hahahaha), a music subscription service for mixed-format DJs. Hey, at least it’s out there.

Enh… Dammit. I really like that show, too. So, by playing herself, she’ll be a bitchy fashionista, right?

I love Chris Daughtry, because Chris loves women. His affection for women isn’t the lounge lizard, slide-your-hotel-room-key-over-to-the-silcon-implanted-drug-rep-for-Pfizer-staying-at-the-Marriot-Courtyard-Inn-while-away-on-business, type so frequently appearing at Taco Tuesdays and seen on your sister’s couch between marriages.

I have spoken to several women that have had the pleasure of meeting Chris for business reasons and he has never failed to impress them with his charm, professionalism, and willingness to actually listen to what the speaker is saying. He’s a keep’ah my cousin in Vermont would say. You gotta love a guy like that!

What the kids are sayin’

"I hate them all. The judges, TPTB, the blatant manipulation, the songs, the contestants, everything. I'm a die-hard Cook fan, but for the love of god, at least try to look like you're enjoying yourself up there! Please? Syesha was awesome but she ruined it by being completely shameless and disgusting. Yes, being on American Idol is exactly like the civil rights movement, except for the part where you're fighting to make the world a better place."

"All I can say after the disgusting display tonight of favoritism towards the mediocrity that is David A. - good luck trying to market and make money off of that kid, American Idol. (Not to mention good luck dealing with his father.) All the teeny boppers may buy up his American Idol coronation single, but they will quickly forget about him before the album comes out. And I shudder to think of a David A. album - song after song of unrelenting sameness and heavy breathing. Why they are pimping him for the win is beyond me."

"This show was simply a hot buttered mess tonight. And Jason "needs to be arrested for what he did to I Shot the Sheriff. But I hope he stays. He amuses me. "
