Two Taylor songs mentioned in EW

“The Runaround” and the old “Dream Myself Awake” snippet were reviewed by Michael Slezak of EW Online’s Popwatch. Slezak far preferred “The Runaround”:

“…with its peppy, mid-’80s horns and restless drumbeat, it sounds like the lovechild of “Sussudio” and “Head Over Heels.” And while the lyrics — “I’m getting an A in broken hearts/I got my degree in crying” — might be a little too cheesy for the hipster crowd, I’m totally ready to sing along after three listens. Perhaps most importantly, though, this loose, jaunty track doesn’t sound like it was manufactured in the Diane Warren Instamatic Hitmaker 6.0[.]”

Needless to say, Slezak was less enthused with “Dream Myself Awake,” though he stopped short of completely panning it:

“Dream Myself Awake,” meanwhile, is a lot more contemporary, but doesn’t do nearly as good a job showcasing Hicks’s personality. I hate to sound like Randy Jackson, but it’s just aiight for me, although Taylor definitely did his thing, Dawg[.]”

Glad to see Taylor’s getting a preliminary nod of approval from the critics. If you visit the site, though, skip the comments section; it’s full of tired, teenaged “my idol is better than your idol” whining.

What the kids are sayin’

"I hate them all. The judges, TPTB, the blatant manipulation, the songs, the contestants, everything. I'm a die-hard Cook fan, but for the love of god, at least try to look like you're enjoying yourself up there! Please? Syesha was awesome but she ruined it by being completely shameless and disgusting. Yes, being on American Idol is exactly like the civil rights movement, except for the part where you're fighting to make the world a better place."

"All I can say after the disgusting display tonight of favoritism towards the mediocrity that is David A. - good luck trying to market and make money off of that kid, American Idol. (Not to mention good luck dealing with his father.) All the teeny boppers may buy up his American Idol coronation single, but they will quickly forget about him before the album comes out. And I shudder to think of a David A. album - song after song of unrelenting sameness and heavy breathing. Why they are pimping him for the win is beyond me."

"This show was simply a hot buttered mess tonight. And Jason "needs to be arrested for what he did to I Shot the Sheriff. But I hope he stays. He amuses me. "
